A couple of developments
Filed Under About Fair Flags, Tesco | Leave a Comment
Some good news. Tesco have started putting the Cross of St George onto some of their English cheese packaging (Not 100% sure if this the same as the previous story or whether there’s a trend).
Presumably as a result of a “sustained campaign” to get this “banner of historical oppression” onto Tesco products.
FairFlags still needs your help. Please keep plugging away at the supermarkets and let us know how your getting on. Be as involved as you like.

Best of Scotland…
Filed Under About Fair Flags, M&S | 3 Comments
This was a label I spotted at Mark’s and Spencer the other day on a pack of beef mince. “Best of Scotland” in a rosette with a Saltire background. Right next to that were some other packs of minced beef marked with the Union Flag – which I suspect originated in England. Didn’t have my camera with me unfortunately.
Scotland is part of the Union – so why are Scottish produced goods marked Scottish with the Saltire? While those from other home nations are promoted under the Union Flag?
Fairflags is back up and running and we have a new contributor Sara – welcome aboard.
If there’s anyone else out there who would like to contribute an article please mail me secretary(at)fairflags.org.uk if you’d like to contribute on a regular basis I will create an account for you.

Merry Christmas
Filed Under About Fair Flags | 1 Comment
The Fairflags campaign team wish all our readers and supporters a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Yes, we’ve been very quiet lately – sadly other commitments have to have priority. But rest assured we’ll be back in the new year where we’ll be chasing up Morrisons and starting the big one – Tesco!
Over Christmas we’ll be moving the site to a new server so there may well be some down time.

Welcome to the Fair Flags campaign

Hopefully the picture above sums up what the Fair Flags campaign is about.
English butter. British flag. Bet your life if that was Scottish butter it would be proudly displaying the Saltire. We think that’s unfair.
Our aim is to get the supermarkets to consistently display the correct nation of origin on their packaging. At the moment they’re actively going out of their way to show Scottish made produce as made in Scotland whilst displaying English, Welsh and Northern Irish produce as British.
It’s not a big deal like the injustice of the Barnett Formula or the absence of English political representation but where equality is concerned – every little helps.
Thanks to the great work of Chris at Why England needs a Parliament, the CEP and many others, the Supermarkets are becoming aware of this issue, more to the point they are becoming aware that WE are becoming aware.
Let’s keep the pressure on. If you support our aims the best thing you can do is get writing.
If you have a blog please link to our campaign or display our badge (more coming soon).
